About Our Team
The
Yankee United Heat young women premier soccer team was formed in the summer
of 1994 by Wayne Mones Head Men's Soccer Coach of Western Connecticut State
University and Nestor Sangnetti. The initial core of the Heat team
evolved from Mones' Trumbull Stinger U-12 Travel Team that had won 5 State
Championships beginning as nine year olds in 1991.
Fall 94
started the Heat's initial season with the Yankee team playing just 7 games
winning them all. The team began in earnest in the spring posting
a 28-2-2 record overall. Highlights f this initial season were
capturing the JAGS Tournament defeating teams from Virginia, Pennsylvania,
New Jersey, and New York, winning the Connecticut U-12 OPEN Cup 2-0 final
versus Farmington Valley and defeating Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and
Eastern Pennsylvania in the Region 1 Tournament before bowing out in the
semi-finals 2-1 to Chantily, Virginia.
The 95-96
U-13 version of the "Heat" brought more challenges and a full slate of
Fall & Spring games. In the Fall of 95 the Heat participated
in the Top Flight of the prestigious WAGS Tournament tying State OPEN Champions
Council Rock Pennsylvania and J.B. Marine Missouri 0-0 before losing to
Regional Champion Texas Sting 2-1. In the Spring of 96 highlights
included winning the Columbia Maryland Tournament defeating HBC New York,
Columbia Maryland, Lakota Ohio, Windor World Class Connecticut, and the
Virginia Beach Breakers in the final 1-0 as well as the Kirkwood, Delaware
Inv in which the Heat defended Voores the New Jersey Champion 1-0 in the
finals. The Heat girls finished their U-13 campaign with a 33-6-8
record.
In September

girls began their freshman years on their various high school teams.
After posting a 14-3-1 Fall season the Yankee United Heat made its initial
excursion to the Orange Bowl in Miami, Florid defeating 4 Florida teams
in addition to the Texas Longhorns, losing in the finals on a penalty kick
to State Champion Carmel Indiana.
The Yankee
girls repeated last spring's accomplishments winning again both the Kirkwood
Delaware and Columbia Maryland Tournaments in addition to the Chesterfield
Virginia Ice Breaker Tournament. The Competition one year older proved
to be much more competitive. Heat victims included OPEN Cup
State Champions, North Rockland New York, Spartan Storm North Carolina,
Booster Bolts Mass, Beheads Maryland, and Regional Champions Windsor World
Class Connecticut and Chantily Virginia. The Heat finished their
96-97 campaign with their entire Yankee United club attending the Busch
St. Louis Missouri Friendship Cup where the Heat defeated OPEN State Champions
Georgia Top Hatters, Iowa Quad City, Michigan Hawks, and the Greenboro
North Carolina Twisters. The Heats overall 96-97 record finished
at 48 wins 11 loses and 6 ties.
The U-15
Yankee sHeat team had a tremendous 97-98 season. Earning finalist
honors at the Orange Bowl, again losing on PKs to Carmel Indiana.

Champions North Premier, Chantily Virginia, and Javanon Kentucky and reaching
its ultimate goal garnering the Region 1 U-15 Championships by defeating

cycle in revenging their 2-1 defeat to Chantily 3 years prior in the U-12
semi-finals. The Heat closed the door on their best season ever 41-3-4
with 147 goals and 30 against.
U-16 98-99 Heat
season was a roller coaster of extreme high and lows. The Heat accomplishment
were many with the Heat playing up at U-17 winnng Conn Premier league posting
a perfect 6-0 record with 14 goals for and 1 agaisnt. Tournaments
highpoints include a Semi-final XXXX at both the Orange Bowl, Columbia

Winsor World Class who would advance and win the U-16 national Championship.
The Heat fnished their season with a 32-9-9 record scoring 101 goals with
35 against. Its greatest accomplishment was placing 16 of 16 of their
girls who tried out on the O.D.P. U-15,16, and 17 State Teams.
Last Years
U-17 Heat season was a most disapointing one as the "Heat" for the 1st
time in its 6 year existance failed to qualify for the Conn Open Cup Final
losing in overtime to Oakwood 3-1 in the semifinals. Tournament highlights
included a semi-final berth at the Columbia Maryland Tournament in which
the Heat defeated archivals and then National Champios Windsor World Class
2-1. Other significant wins over nationally & regional ranked teams
that include MC Dynamo N.J., Top Hatters (Georgia), Concil Rock P.A., Eclipse
