Yankee Winter Highlights
North Branford 6v6 League
Most Improved Player: Meg Savoia,
with 6 goals. Mentally you have gotten much stonger
from playing here. Your frustrations week by week led you to
be more focused and to raise your game. Technically, you are
tighter on the ball and your shots have gotten more and more on target.
Most Valuable: Kristen Demers,
consistently you shut down the most dangerous players from the
opposition. You helped break the opponents momentum and you
kept us mentally focused, positive and in the game. The
last two games you proved yourself to be a dangerous asset for our
offense.
Monroe Magic 9v9 Tournament
U-18 Empire Alleycats, NY 1-0 Loss. For 38 minutes the Fire defended the Alleycats, whose team boasts two national team players. Cristina Fini, Kristen Demers, Michelle Doak and Gabby Nastri defended fiercely. Nastri hit the post on a free kick.
U-17 Monroe Magic, NY 1-1 Tie. Goal: Emily Coleman, Assist: Erica Celini
A rematch for the Fire who had tied and lost previously to NY's Magic.
The Fire outshot Monroe but Monroe scored an early goal to go
ahead 1-0. The tying goal came late in the game, followed by a
barrage of shots and opportunities. Every player got at least one
shot off in this game.
U-18 Arsenal World Class, NJ 0-0 Tie. Several chances were had for both sides. The Fire had a tremendous game against U-18 AWC, who had beaten them 4-0 weeks ago at Teaneck, NJ.
Our thanks to Hillary Singer who posted 15 saves in the tournament for the Fire. Emily Coleman was a tremendous threat all night. In all three games the Fire outshot or matched their opponents chances.
